Casinos and Gambling in the State of Michigan

IMPORTANT NOTE TO MEMBERS ! Some criminal(s) are repeatedly posting hundreds of links to supposed "porn" sites on this forum. DO NOT go to these sites - they contain SPYWARE and VIRUS'es that will compromise your pc.

Gambling in Michigan is supervised and regulated by the Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act. Conversely, if the casino is situated on Native American land, the casino is subject to the laws invoked by the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. Certain gaming also falls under the regulation of specific laws, in particular the game of Bingo. Bingo is subject to the Traxler, McCauley Law of 1972 and the Bowman Bingo Act. Further, gambling in the state of Michigan is only permitted at sites authorized by the state. Anyone that promotes or practices gambling at an unauthorized location in the state of Michigan is guilty of a misdemeanor and could face up to one to two years in prison, depending on the circumstances of the infraction, and a fine of up to 1,000 dollars.

Defying the laws of Michigan is a no win situation: winners of money obtained from unauthorized gambling activities or received at unauthorized gambling locations may face fines and imprisonment. In fact, any person who wins money over the sum of 50 dollars is considered to be guilty of a misdemeanor and could face a 1,000 dollar fine and a one year term of imprisonment. Plus, any gaming equipment that is utilized at an unauthorized location, when discovered, is immediately confiscated by state authorities. One final note pertaining to the gambling laws of the state: the state of Michigan does not offer online gambling as it is viewed as a form of gambling that occurs outside of an authorized location and Michigan law strictly prohibits gambling for anyone under eighteen.

Michigan has a number of lucrative and thriving casinos. Due to the laws of Michigan and aside from the three casinos established in the Detroit area, many of the states casinos are located on Native American tribal land. Currently, there are nineteen existing casinos in the state of Michigan. Michigan's casinos can be found scattered throughout Brimley, Detroit, Harris, Hessel, Manistee, Manistique, Marquette, Mount Pleasant, Peshawbestown, Petoskey, Sault Ste. Marie, St. Ignace, Watersmeet, and Williamsburg.

Seventy-nine percent of all of the casinos in Michigan are owned by Native Americans. Likewise, more or less the same amount of casinos are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, while the remaining twenty-one percent operate during selective hours that vary throughout the week. Further, some Michigan casinos vary their hours from season to season. Equally, Michigan's casinos vary in size; sizes of the casinos vary from 7,400 square feet and upwards to 210,000 square feet. Michigan's larger casinos are more apt to offer a substantial supply of gambling entertainment including an assortment of slot machines, gaming tables, miscellaneous amusement and recreational activities, restaurants, and lodging. Although the state's smaller casinos supply comparable gaming facilities, they often afford fewer gaming machines or gaming tables and they may not offer hotel accommodations or as many eateries as the larger casinos offer, due to their smaller size. However, all of Michigan's casinos provide some sort of dining on location.

All of Michigan's casinos have an assortment of slot machines. In fact, Michigan's casinos provide gambling enthusiasts with well over 21,000 gaming machines. Typical gaming machines found in Michigan's casinos include, but are in no way limited to: Addams' Family, American Pride, Anchor's Wheel of Gold, Bomb Shell, Double Diamonds, Elvis, Fabulous '50s, Jeopardy, Nicklemania, Party Time, Reel Racers, Sizzling Sevens, Top Dog, and Wheel of Fortune slot machines. Further, most of Michigan's casinos offer penny, nickel, quarter, and dollars slots, as well as five dollar and progressive slots. Finally, a select few offer Keno or Yahtzee slots, in addition to Video Poker.

There is no shortage of gaming tables in Michigans casinos. Combined, the casinos throughout Michigan offer over 450 gaming tables. Again, the larger casinos tend to provide a larger supply of gaming tables: parallel to the size of available space they possess. Visitors of Michigan's casinos can enter into a variety of table games including: 3 Card Poker, Baccarat, Blackjack, Craps, Let it Ride, Pai Gow Poker, Poker, Roulette, and Texas Hold'em. Additionally, many of the casinos in Michigan make miscellaneous gaming available to their visitors: Bingo, Keno, and Pull Tabs are frequently offered, while a number of the gambling establishments host tournaments periodically.

Similar to many other casinos situated throughout the United States, Michigan's gambling establishments try their best to cater to the needs of their guests by providing supplementary services. Often, casinos provide exclusive services that might include one or more of the following: convention and meeting halls, golfing, RV parking, complimentary drinks, dinner shops, free valet parking, gift shops, hair salons, health clubs, non-smoking atmospheres, spas, regular and heated swimming pools, free shuttle transportation from the casinos to nearby hotels and campgrounds, dance floors, and lounges. Visitors to casinos in Michigan can even indulge in the Players Club provided. What's more, a select few casinos in Michigan present family friendly services like supervised arcades, children's programming, and daycare.

All of Michigan's casinos have one or more eateries. Visitors to any and all of Michigan's casinos can often find cafes, delicatessens, snack bars, steakhouses, buffets, or numerous bar and grilles. Some establishments even offer outdoor barbeques, while many serve breakfast lunch and dinner to their guests. After eating in any of the casinos eateries, if visitors decide that they want to indulge in dessert, many guests can find ice cream shops available on location.

Finally, as far as lodging is concerned, slightly fewer than fifty percent of Michigans casinos provide room accommodations on the premises. Once again, the larger casinos tend to offer lodging due to their considerable size. However, the smaller casinos, while not offering any form of lodging, make up the difference to their guests by providing free shuttle transportation to and from nearby hotels and campgrounds. Thus, if visitors cannot purchase accommodations at the casino of their choosing, at minimum, they can find fitting and comfortable accommodations within a close proximity to the casino they choose to visit.
